Biking in Tarpon Springs Aug 4
This morning I headed out on Hank, my bike to do a short tour of my town. I was only able to cover 8 miles today but plan on touring until I've seen it all or as much of this town as I can on a bike.
I headed up Old Dixie Highway and onto Alt. l9. Once I was over the bridge that spans the Anclote River, I headed towards the bayous where the sponge boaters can be found and close by are the huge Victorian mansions built by the rich easterners who wintered in our town eons ago. (I'll take pics of those another day). I rode along tiny back streets still covered in cobblestones and along the bayou as far as I could. One ship yard offered a marvelous view of the river leading out to the Gulf.
On one of the back streets, I found this house past it's prime. What a shame it has been allowed to fall into disrepair as I imagine it was a beauty in its day.
It sure would make a great haunted house, now wouldn't it?
All along the river here is an active ship repair and ship building business. Upon occasion, we can even hear the welding as we are less than a mile from the river and water carries sound so well.
I am hoping tomorrow to find another part of my town to explore and to hopefully share with you.
Thanks for looking.
