We loved Athens. Jo had hired a driver for us who took us to the Parthenon, picked us up there and took us around the city and to the Plaka, for lunch and shopping, and then back to the cruise boat. Let me tell you, this made our visit to Athens so easy and a such a pleasure.
We loved Athens. It is a cosmopolitan city, much like Barcelona where you are apt to look across from your cafe and find a monolith from ancient Grecian times right before your eyes.
We all four climbed to the tip top of the Parthenon. Poor E and his affected balance and Bill with his recent knee replacement both were valiant and actually said the trip down was a bit harder on then then the trip up but both were worth the effort. The view...indescribable. It is one of those 'had to be there' moments that when I think back, still takes my breath away.
We shopped the Plaka, roamed through several side streets, had a wonderful lunch at a small cafe and found the perfect charms for our bracelets, of course. Back to the ship for Greek night before our ship pulled out of the harbor. Did Athens pass the 'would we stay here a week' test...YES!
