Christmas in the Tropics

My great niece, Kaela, was born and raised here in Florida. She thinks snow is the stuff they blow around at Disney World or the sled mound the city of Ft. Myers creates for the kids every year at the park.

I have friends who say don't I miss the snow and the lights and smell of pine and fires in the fireplace we use to have. Yes, some but it is still Christmas here even though we don't have the freezing ice, the cold that leaves you numb to your nethers and turns your lips blue. I have to remind them that in Bethlehem, there were palm trees and sand and more tropical temps than the ones the good folks up North are use to.

I did miss the kick off to the season at "Tweens" this year. Going to Tween Waters Resort on Captiva for the caroling and lighting of the lights and the amazing fireworks on the beach has become our family tradition since we had moved to Florida...we are still hunting for a replacement up here.

Christmas is in the heart, not the temp. I had a nice taste of the holiday today as I finished up some gift shopping for 3 close friends. One is a cinch to buy for...we generally buy each other about the same thing. The other is also easy but it may take a bit to find exactly what I am looking for and the third is really hard...this woman has everything...and if she doesn't have it, she can obtain it without breaking a sweat. She is the one who is the challenge and today I did it! I found not one but two goodies for this gal and I can't wait to play Santa.

I did this layout of Kaela with my December Creative Scrap Shack kit (www.creativescrapshack.com) and I love it!

Only 20 more shopping days until Christmas...who is your challenge to buy for this year?

I enjoyed a few years of real snow in Indiana! I had never really seen snow fall until then. We had a few white Christmas', but it would generally get white in January. I grew up in Los Angeles. We would see the snow covered mountain tops around the valley and always wished to be in it! One year when I was a kid I remember it getting so cold and Mom ran us all outside to see the top of our very tall pine tree with a sprinkling of snow on top, but it melted within minutes!
