We had out second day at sea and spent it lounging either on the top deck or reading on our balconies...tough life, huh? That night was our second formal night...see pics below...I wore the same skirt as the first night and the melon colored top instead of the black one. E wore his tux of course!
We woke the next morning arriving in Salerno with our driver already waiting for us. Quite the driver he was too...a young Italian man dressed to the nines in a sleek suit, spiffy shirt and tie and filled with a fountain of information, ideas and fun! We put ourselves in his capable hands and headed up the coast.
We stopped at three towns along the way and not necessarily in this order: Positano, either Praiano or Vettica Maggiore (need to double check with Jo on this one), and Amalfi with about an hour in each village. Then it was on to our guide's home town of Sorrento where Jo and I found our charms for the Amalfi Coast. The picture of the rocks against the dramatic sky is of the dolomitic pinnacle known as "Madonna col Bambino" and I was lucky to get this shot as it was out of the van window. On our way to Sorrento, we drove though Ravello and another small village and somewhere along the way, we saw Sophia Loren's home and a private island once owned by the ballet dancer, Nureyev. I can see why these people loved this area...I fell hard too. Adding this coast line to my list of places I would return to...and these are only five of the 102 pictures I took along the coast.
We really liked Sorrento. We had about an hour and a half there and had a great view of Monte Vesuvio. We have to come back so we can see Naples, the Isle of Capri and Pompey. But first, E says we are going to visit Clare in N.Z.
Then back to the ship, one more day at sea and on to Barcelona for another day.
Thank you for staying with me for our journey. Not long now and I'll return you to your previously scheduled programing.
