In Rebuttle

This was posted on the mb today, long after my Creative Spellers goodnight was posted...actually the "brave person" posted this the next day and it was brought to my attention by several pals.

and if I'm not mistaken, wasn't Jules a HS English teacher? It's pretty sad that she is for the creative spelling. You must not have been a great teacher. And we wonder why our country is not the smartest.

This goes under the "things that make you go hmmmmmmm" catagory. I am so confused...was this gal a former student, did she have a problem with her English teacher or is she just against creativity in general?

First, this poster has no clue to my curriculum vitae nor, to my knowledge, has she ever seen me teach. My whole life has been about education in one way or another and for her to make these assumptions based on a few fun posts on a mb says more about her than it does me.

I have been involved in education and encouraging learning for the past 35 years. I have served on numerous committees and was our school districts motivational speaker and a personal advocate for students with learning disabilities and those who were at risk. I was the editor and proofreader for 6 adults working on their BS degrees, 7 on their Masters and 3 who obtained their PHDs . I have numerous awards and testimonials to my teaching. I do know how to spell.

What else I know is that a mb is a place to have fun, exchange information and be creative! That, not spelling a word correctly, is the keystone to a fun mb. To critique posters on their spelling, inhibits them from fully expressing themselves. A mb is a place for exchange of all sorts but not a classroom where the nun slaps hands for wrongful spellings.

For someone who has no clue who I am or what I stand for to label me in this way is a slap in the face to all educators! I did not make this country less smart with my teaching...I improved as much as I could.

I've shown you mine, poster...show me yours!

Jules...

Someone told me to come look at your blog, so I did. I commend you for speaking your mind, and standing up for yourself. I do admire that.

Let me point out a few things in this posting of yours in hopes that others will see it.

You stated "assumptions based on a few fun posts on a mb says more about her than it does me". Jules, I couldn't agree with you more. Why do others get upset at FUN POSTS? I post things FOR FUN, and people get their panties in a wad. This would definately go under the 'things that make you go hmmmmm' catagory.

You also try to explain yourself in a paragraph. This is very puzzling to me. Why? Why explain yourself? If others have a problem with what you post, it's THEIR problem, NOT yours. Don't defend yourself, it makes you seem guilty of something that you aren't.

Then you stated, "What else I know is that a mb is a place to have fun, exchange information and be creative!" PREACH IT SISTA!! AMEN!! This is what I do, but I'm blasted for it. I make up a friggen story, and people come out of the woodwork to criticize or call me all sorts of names...for what reason? All I did was to write a story about an everyday occurance (and yes, it happens ALL THE TIME), I changed the names, dates, circumstances, etc., to 'color' the story, and you would have thought I had just shot the President.

Then you stated, "For someone who has no clue who I am or what I stand for to label me in this way is a slap..." I bow down in respect for you.

I just don't understand why people act the way they do. It's a mystery to me.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you. This post of yours is what I have wanted to say for a long time, but I chose to keep my mouth shut (for once, LOL).

Jules, I have no idea who you are, but I am beginning to see, and I like you. You say what is on your mind, as I do. You're not afraid to march forward, as I am not afraid. You're not afraid to write in a blog for the whole world to read and comment, as I certainly am not afraid of doing this either.

Thank you Jules, thank you!! OK, now who will show theirs? Huh? LOL

((by the way...you spelled committees wrong, Hun.. it's with 2 t's LOL))

As you, and probably most people who read here know, I don't post at CK anymore. But it seems some things never change. Even when I was still posting, a select few (they pretty much selected themselves LOL) decided to take it upon themselves to "rule the roost" over there (another problem with having moderators who don't post on the boards they monitor) and can't seem to live without the drama they get from blasting others. I've known people like this in my life and simply choose to steer clear of them. They thrive on chaos, and when there is none in their own everyday little lives, they seek it on the board. If there is none on the board, they create it. They don't know the difference between teasing and having fun, and being mean and hurtful. These kinds of people are jealous of others because their own lives are lacking, but of course, they would never admit that because that would make them less than the perfect people they seem to think they are.

They are the ones that you probably encountered every year you taught high school--the ones who pick on those who get better grades and have an interest in learning that they, themselves, don't, thus the jealousy factor. They just grow up to be jealous adults. Adults who are so dissatisfied with their lives they only feel better about themselves when blasting others. And they're usually the first ones to cry and complain when they get their feelings hurt. Sad they never got past high school mentality.

I don't know who the poster was who has the stick up her butt, and I would imagine that stick is probably very uncomfortable, so maybe that's her excuse for coming back a day later just to post this. Last I looked, the mb was not a classroom but a place to enjoy the company of others who share the same hobby. If her hobby is English and spelling, perhaps someone should let her know she's on the wrong message board so she can leave before she is embarrassed.

Posting at CK "prolly" just brings back memories of the classroom some days, huh!? ;)

HUGS
Shar

Jules, your contributions to all students must be such an intrinsic reward, your contributions to the creativeness of scrappers is inspiring. I hope you know that and I thank you and others for not critizing my spelling, which is pretty much Australian not American and therefore different anyway. If we want to get techinical who the hell changed light to lite and colour to color? I think Americans are extremely creative with spelling and good on 'em after all it is our differences that set us apart not our samenesses (is that a word?) whether they be cultural, art, talents, language, accents or SPELLING. I applaud anyone who can be themselves despite the nastiness of others and the dictates that we all conform! Keep on smiling Jules.

DITTO everything Shar said. That is why I refuse to post on that board. From the minute Shar was banned, I knew that was not a community I cared to belong to. I have been back twice--once when Steph (Groovy83) was lectured to by "KOKO" in such a downgrading manner and, the last time was when you, Jules, were attacked weeks back. It will never end as long as the "powers that be" are anonymous people who ALWAYS come down on the side of evil. The more the trouble makers are protected and people like Shar are banned, CKMB will continue to have evil, hateful drama. NOT what a scrapbook message board should be about. As adults, we should all seek for ourselves the same as we all wanted for our children--a nice, safe playground to enjoy. We may not have a large community on our very own Monkey Board BUT!!!--we ALL care about each other's feelings, are concerned about each other, we celebrate each other's successes, cry when one of us is hurting. I MUCH prefer a small group of caring friends over a large group where the only thing you CAN count on is--if you stick around for a few days, ugliness will come out of the woodwork. You can bet on it. Such a shame that a few bad apples CAN spoil spoil the whole bunch.

Monkeys love ya, Jules and, we know that YOU know that.

Oh Jules, I'm sorry to hear that you were "blasted" like that. I don't know you all that well but I do agree with everyone of these ladies in the fact that it's just a mb and not some "spelling bee". So what if you misspelled a word or whatever--you were doing a fun post, well if you have to be serious in a fun post then nothing will be fun anymore. Just stay being you and I for one have fun reading your posts on the mb and here in your blog.

Awesome post Jules!! Can't believe how FLW can make so many assumptions about someone when from the amount of her posts (55 at that posting) she is a relative newbie. Or is she? Another thing that "makes you go hmmm..."

LOL...thank you. Now I can rest comfortably knowing that committee is spelled correctly. LOL

(I hope that you did't take that seriously, LOL)

Sorry Jules that someone felt the need to be so offensive to you and to those of us who consider you a friend. There's always going to be people like that and sometimes one has to just let run like water off of a duck.
